New Delhi: Eight children were killed in a mass shooting in the US state of Louisiana on Sunday in what authorities believe was a domestic-related incident. The victims were between the ages of 1 and 14.
According to a report by the Associated Press, the suspected gunman opened fire at multiple homes early in the morning. The situation unfolded across different locations before law enforcement intervened.
Suspect killed after chase
Police said the suspect was later killed during a chase. Officers fired at the gunman after pursuing him into Bossier City.
Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith confirmed that no officers were injured during the operation. Authorities said the chase ended with the suspect being shot dead.
‘Unlike anything most of us have seen’
Describing the scene, Smith said it was one of the most disturbing incidents his team had encountered.
“This is an extensive scene unlike anything most of us have ever seen,” he said, according to the Associated Press.
Probe underway
An investigation has been launched into the shooting. Shreveport police are working with Louisiana State Police detectives to determine the sequence of events and identify the motive.
Officials said the motive behind the attack is still unclear. Authorities have appealed to the public to share any photos, videos or information that could help in the investigation.
The incident has left the community in shock, with officials describing the scale and nature of the crime as deeply disturbing.
