Hockey Punjab and the Hockey Association of Odisha have further solidified their impressive legacy in domestic hockey by securing bronze medals at the 16th Hockey India Sub Junior National Championship 2026. Hockey Punjab achieved this in the men's category, while the Hockey Association of Odisha claimed third place in the women's division, as reported in an official release.
These achievements highlight the ongoing success both teams have experienced in domestic tournaments, marked by consistent podium finishes and a steady stream of players reaching international standards.
Hockey Punjab's Remarkable Track Record
Hockey Punjab has established itself as a dominant force in domestic competitions, amassing a total of 33 medals (14 Gold, 6 Silver, 13 Bronze) across various categories. The men's team has been particularly successful, contributing 26 medals, including 5 Gold in both the Senior and Junior Men's categories. Recently, the senior men's team secured the title at the 15th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2025, with Jugraj Singh emerging as the top scorer.
The backbone of the Indian men's team, Hockey Punjab is led by Captain Harmanpreet Singh, with key players like Hardik Singh in midfield and Sukhjeet Singh and Abhishek providing offensive strength. Goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak and defenders Jugraj Singh and Jarmanpreet Singh are also crucial members of the squad.
The next generation is making its mark as well, with players like Manmeet Singh, Arshdeep Singh, and Princedeep Singh transitioning into the Indian junior setup after strong domestic performances, showcasing Hockey Punjab's significant contributions.
Odisha's Robust Development Framework
On the other hand, the Hockey Association of Odisha has cultivated a well-rounded ecosystem for both men's and women's hockey, achieving a total of 26 medals (11 Gold, 7 Silver, 8 Bronze). The men's teams have earned 19 medals (10 Gold, 6 Silver, 3 Bronze), particularly excelling in Junior and Sub Junior competitions. The women's teams have also performed admirably, securing 7 medals (1 Gold, 1 Silver, 5 Bronze), with the Junior Women's team contributing one Bronze and the Sub Junior Women's team earning one Silver and four Bronze medals.
