Union Minister Giriraj Singh has targeted the opposition parties. He said that the issue of women’s reservation was pending for the last 40 years, but Congress and other parties never tried to resolve it seriously.
At the same time, Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Brajesh Pathak said, “The women of the country and the state will never forgive the Congress and the Samajwadi Party. The opposition parties will have to bear the brunt of this. The opposition parties have nothing to say.”
Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address, Om Prakash Rajbhar, minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, said, “The Prime Minister’s objective was that women should get reservation in the Constitution, as envisioned by Babasaheb Dr. BR Ambedkar, thereby ensuring equal participation of half the population. However, leaders of Congress, Samajwadi Party and other parties kept the Women’s Reservation Bill pending for 40 years, thus effectively shelving it without approval.”
