Reports indicate that a gunman opened fire and took hostages before being killed in a subsequent confrontation with law enforcement. Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko confirmed that special tactical units intervened after negotiations with the assailant broke down. He stated, "The shooter in Kyiv was neutralized during the arrest," via a Telegram message. The gunman reportedly fired at a police officer during the operation.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that at least five individuals lost their lives in this incident. The shooting occurred in the Holosiivskyi district, as noted by the city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko.
