Taking a big decision in the interest of farmers, the Central Government has approved the proposals to the purchase of agricultural products from Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The objective of these decisions has been said to be to provide fair and remunerative prices to the farmers for their crops and to save them from being forced to sell at low prices.
Giving information about these decisions, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is continuously working to increase the income of farmers and strengthen the agriculture sector. He said that by coordinating with the states, timely and effective decisions are being taken in the interest of the farmers, so that they can be saved from any kind of loss.
Taking an important decision for potato producing farmers in Uttar Pradesh, the government has approved the purchase of potatoes under the Market Intervention Scheme. Under this, twenty lakh metric tonnes of potatoes will be purchased in the state.
The fixed rate for this purchase has been kept at Rs 6,500 per metric ton. This decision is expected to provide great relief to the potato farmers of the state, because many times farmers have to sell their produce at low prices due to falling prices in the market. With this scheme they will be able to get stable and fair prices and balance will also be maintained in the market.
Similarly, relief has also been announced for gram producing farmers of Andhra Pradesh. The government had earlier given approval to purchase seventy-four thousand metric tons of gram under the price support scheme, which has now been increased to one lakh thirteen thousand two hundred and fifty metric tons. With this decision, farmers of the state will get better prices for their produce and they will be saved from losses.
An important step has also been taken for the farmers of Tur i.e. Arhar dal in Karnataka. Now additional time of thirty days has been given for the purchase of tur during the Kharif season, due to which this process will continue till 15th May, 2026.
With this expansion, more and more farmers will get the opportunity to sell their produce at the minimum support price and they will not be forced to sell at lower prices in the market.
The government says that the main objective of all these decisions is to provide economic security to the farmers and maintain stability in the agricultural market. Besides, it is also to be ensured that the farmers get full benefit of their hard work and they do not remain at loss under any circumstances.
