A Netflix series has been described as the greatest horror to exist by fans. The streaming service is known for producing some of the most-watched horror series - and this show is no different. It follows a famous horror writer Emma Larsimon (played by Victoire Du Bois), who has been haunted by an evil spirit since her childhood.

When Emma decides to return to her hometown to find inspiration for her next book, she discovers the woman, Marianne, is not only in her imagination. Back home, Emma must confront the supernatural force that is turning her own dark stories into reality. The cast also features Lucie Boujenah, Tiphaine Daviot, Ralph Amoussou, Bellamine Abdelmalek, Mehdi Meskar, Alban Lenoir and Mireille Herbstmeyer.

The eight-part French horror series was met with high praise following its release in 2019.

It was described as one of the scariest shows on Netflix and currently holds a perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

It even got the seal of approval from horror author Stephen King, who wrote on X: "If you're one of those sickos - like me -who enjoys being scared, MARIANNE (Netflix) will do the job. There are glints of humor that give it a STRANGER THINGS vibe. It also has (I say it with all due modesty) a Stephen King vibe."

Despite the positive reaction, Marianne was cancelled after the first season. This hasn't stopped fans from discussing the series online, with many branding it one of the best horror shows ever.

One wrote: "Marianne on Netflix, best horror series I've ever seen. It deserved more seasons."

Taking to IMDb, another said: "I was very pleasantly surprised. The first episode immediately gripped me and made me want to see more, more of these characters, more of this story. I feel like this series honestly does a lot of things right, especially the characters.

"I felt like I was never watching characters, but real people. Scenes were they were angry at each-other had a very real tension to it, scenes were they were happy and having fun with each-other make you feel happy to see a group of friends being able to see the bright-side in dark situations. And even the language barrier didn't bother me. I was able to understand everything that was going on. Overall, this was a very well crafted, short series."

A third echoed: "I'll go for Marianne. When we feel everything's okay, suddenly things take a dark turn. Still surprised why Netflix hasn't renewed the series. It's one of the best horror shows I've ever seen!"

Begging for another instalment, a fourth fan penned: "They need to give me a second season of Marianne because it's probably the greatest horror series to ever exist even for Netflix."
