Australia's former captain Aaron Finch revealed his list of top 5 Aussie players to have played in the Indian Premier League. His list raised quite a few eyebrows and left out huge names such as Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell.

From the win for Rajasthan Royals by legendary Shane Warne in the inaugural season to multiple match-winning displays, Australians have always played a crucial part in the IPL. While on commentary duty at the IPL 2026, Finch revealed his list keeping in mind players performances and overall contribution to the league.

Hussey, Watson and Warner find a spot in Finch's list

Among the Aussie batters of all time, Finch named Michael Hussey as one of the best to have played in the IPL. Hussey played for Mumbai Indians and also was an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings setup. In one of the IPL seasons, Hussey managed to score 733 runs which was one of the highest in a single season.

Finch has also included Shane Watson and David Warner in his list. While Watson performed very well in the league and managed to bag multiple titles with multiple franchises, David Warner has been the most consistent batter in the IPL history. He is among the highest run-getters in the tournament with multiple 100s under his belt.

Bowlers Too Find a Place in List

Besides the batters Finch also managed to pick two bowlers in his top five. He went on to pick Josh Hazlewood for his recent exploits for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Hazlewood has managed to chip in with both the new ball and death bowling.

Finch also opted to include Mitchell Johnson, who was a crucial cog in Mumbai Indians' championship campaigns, as he was feared by all opposition for his sheer pace and knack of picking up wickets. He was usually a handy opening pair with Lasith Malinga.

A Few Big Names Excluded

There are many who would be questioning Finch's decision to omit certain prominent Australian players from his top five list. In fact other than Starc and Maxwell even Australian great Steve Smith as well as the former two IPL winning captains in Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist have been missed.

This indicates that Finch is indeed looking at impact rather than legacy, and this topic of discussion regarding the best Australian cricketers in the IPL history is set to continue for a long time now, with Finch adding his perspective to the debate.
