We were treated to some of the best drama, as Coronation Street continued to push boundaries, while The Sweeney and The Professionals added plenty of grit to our nightly viewing as detective shows from here and America had us gripped.

We saw some cracking game shows - 3-2-1, It's A Knockout, Sale of the Century, Blankety Blank and the Generation Game to name but a few.

Sci-fi was a growing genre following the Moon landings, with Star Trek, Dr Who, Wonder Woman and Space: 1999 among the hits.

And then there is the classic kids' TV! Who can forget John Noakes on Blue Peter, the emergence of Grange Hill and a certain scarecrow called Worzel?
