A big moment early in the match helped Bangladesh gain control against New Zealand in the first ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

Saif Hassan received his first chance to bat when Henry Nicholls did not catch a very straightforward slip catch during the second over. Saif pushed at the ball which was outside the off-stump. The edge went straight to Nicholls at a good height but he failed to hold on.

The player should have caught the straightforward opportunity which was presented to him. Saif had just begun his batting when the match started. The drop proved to be an expensive mistake for New Zealand team.

Bangladesh in Control of the Chase

The match is still going on but Bangladesh looks in a good position. They have scored 125 runs after losing 3 wickets while chasing 248 runs during 26 overs. Saif Hassan and Litton Das helped stabilize the innings after Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Najmul Hossain Shanto lost their wickets early in the match. Touhid Hridoy has joined him on the pitch. Bangladesh needs 123 runs to win the match with many overs remaining in the game. New Zealand believes that missing the catch resulted in their defeat. The match would have progressed differently if Nicholls had caught that ball.
