For more than the last 3 years, the performance of Pakistan cricket team has been continuously poor in ICC tournaments. Whatever may be the format, whatever may be the tournament, Pakistan team has not been able to come even close to the title, leave alone winning the title. Coincidentally, whoever was the captain of Pakistan in all these tournaments, he himself has failed, after which he has been dismissed. Although no action has been taken against team captain Salman Aga after the failure of the recent T20 World Cup, but now he himself is preparing to take a big step.
Under the captaincy of Salman Ali Aga, the Pakistani team had failed to leave any impact in the T20 World Cup 2026. This team somehow reached the Super-8 round, where its journey ended. To win against Netherlands, they had to make papads. At the same time, he had once again failed against Team India. Since then, Salman Aga's captaincy is also under question.
Salman preparing to take a big step?
But while the captains were dismissed after the failure of different tournaments in the past, Salman is still left in this matter. The Pakistani board has not removed him yet. Whereas Salman himself has not resigned from this post. But now he is preparing to take a step due to which he may be out of the team.
Actually, Salman Aga is considering taking a break from T20 International for some time. The Pakistani T20 captain himself revealed this. These days, Salman, who is playing in PSL 2026, expressed his intentions while talking to the media. He said that he can take a break from T20 format, if it helps him to prepare himself better for ODI and Test cricket.
Excuse to avoid embarrassment?
He cited the reason for this as the ODI World Cup and World Test Championship to be held next year. In fact, the next T20 World Cup is now directly in 2028, while the Olympics is also in 2028. In such a situation, there will be less focus on T20 format for the next one and a half years, while there will be more emphasis on ODIs. Keeping this in view, Salman Aga also wants to prepare himself for the ODI World Cup. But this is also true that with this he can save himself from the embarrassment of being dropped from the T20 team.
