Known for her role in Bade Acche Lagte Hain, Chahatt Khanna spoke openly about converting to Islam during her marriage and later returning to Sanatan Dharma.

Chahatt Khanna Says Her Statements Are Often Misinterpreted

Speaking in an interview with Subhojit Ghosh, Chahatt Khanna expressed frustration over how her words are frequently taken out of context.

“My words are always misinterpreted. Even now, if I say something, one sentence will be picked and published somewhere in a different context,” Chahatt Khanna said.


The actor highlighted how selective reporting has often shaped public perception around her personal life.

Addressing long-standing rumours, Chahatt Khanna clarified that her decision to convert to Islam during her marriage to Farhan Mirza was voluntary.

“Yes, I had converted to Islam by my own choice. Many people said that I was forced to convert, but I have never said that,” Chahatt Khanna stated.

She also emphasised her secular outlook, adding: “I celebrate Eid just as well as I celebrate Diwali… I believe in Islam, I believe in Sanatan Dharma as well.”

Chahatt Khanna described her belief system as inclusive, stating that her faith is not restricted to one religion.

Chahatt Khanna Personal Life: Marriages and Relationships

Chahatt Khanna’s personal life has often been in the public eye. She was first married to Bharat Narsinghani in 2006, but the marriage ended within a year.

She later married Farhan Mirza in 2013 and filed for divorce in 2018, citing mental and sexual harassment. The former couple has two daughters.

Currently, Chahatt Khanna is reportedly in a relationship with Rohan Gandotra.

Chahatt Khanna Opens Up About Backlash and Public Scrutiny

Chahatt Khanna also reflected on the emotional toll of media scrutiny, especially during her divorces and personal struggles.

“I used to feel disheartened, sad and scared… my name is getting spoiled. Some people even told me I wouldn’t get work,” she shared.

Over time, however, Chahatt Khanna said she developed resilience and confidence.

“As my knowledge about life increased, my confidence grew… and these things started feeling very small.”

Chahatt Khanna on Returning to Sanatan Dharma

In a previous 2024 interview, Chahatt Khanna spoke about her return to her “roots” after her divorce.

“After my divorce, it took me a lot of time to come back to my originality… thankfully, when I got back to my roots of the Sanatana Dharma, I realised the greater truth,” she said.

While she acknowledged learning from her experiences, Chahatt Khanna also hinted at feeling influenced during that phase.

“Not that I was forced to convert… but I was definitely told ‘don’t worship your god’… and I, being a lost child, followed that way.”

Despite everything, she maintains a balanced perspective: “I am in a much happier space now… I know what I am doing and I am living a very conscious life.”
