Gangtok, April 17: On Friday, Sikkim's Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang praised a significant rally organized by women throughout Sikkim in favor of the Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam (Women's Reservation Bill). He described the event as a powerful demonstration of unity, awareness, and collective determination.

In a post on social media, the Chief Minister expressed immense pride in witnessing women from diverse backgrounds—mothers, sisters, and daughters—come together from every constituency in support of women's empowerment.

Tamang highlighted that the rally represented the strength and resolve of women in Sikkim, emphasizing their increasing role in shaping public discussions.

“This united show of support illustrates the strength, awareness, and determination of our state's women,” he remarked.

He extended his best wishes on behalf of the state government and its citizens, commending the participants for their active engagement and dedication.

The Chief Minister noted that such initiatives are vital for fostering a more inclusive and empowered society. “The enthusiastic involvement of women in these movements is truly motivating and will certainly lead to a stronger and fairer future,” he stated.

Referring to the Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam as a groundbreaking reform, Tamang indicated that its passage represents a historic achievement in promoting women's empowerment in India.

He acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiating this initiative, calling it one of the most significant accomplishments of the 21st century in enhancing gender equality.

Tamang expressed optimism that the enthusiasm generated by public participation would continue to drive progress and unity in the future.

He stressed that ongoing efforts and collective determination are crucial for ensuring meaningful representation and opportunities for women across various sectors.

Additionally, CM Tamang conveyed his greetings to the people of Sikkim on the occasion of Mata Tirtha Aunsi, wishing them peace, prosperity, and ongoing success.

Reiterating his support for women-led initiatives, the Chief Minister affirmed the government's commitment to policies that foster inclusivity, empowerment, and equal participation in the state's development journey.

The Women's Reservation Bill, officially known as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, was introduced by the Central government under PM Modi's leadership, aiming to reserve 33% of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies.

This legislation is viewed as a pivotal reform to tackle the long-standing underrepresentation of women in India's political arena.

By facilitating greater involvement of women in lawmaking, the Bill aspires to create a more inclusive and representative governance structure. Its implementation is contingent upon the delimitation process, which will adjust constituency boundaries based on population shifts, after which the reservation will take effect. Advocates believe that this initiative will politically empower women and bolster democratic institutions, while also motivating more women to assume leadership roles across various sectors.
