The aftermath of the Charlotte Hornets-Miami Heat game has turned into a disciplinary matter. The NBA has fined LaMelo Ball a total of $60.000combining two separate incidents that occurred during and after the Play-In game.
Contact on Bam Adebayo and Flagrant 2
The first penalty, worth $35.000concerns contact deemed “unnecessary and dangerous” against Bam Adebayo. The incident occurred in the second quarter: following a play under the basket, the Heat big man went to the floor after Ball made contact near the ball.
The league emphasized that the action created a significant injury risk to the point that it was later upgraded to a Flagrant Foul 2 upon review. Adebayo, struck in the lower back area, did not return to the game and finished with just 11 minutes played in Miami’s eventual overtime loss.
Second fine: language during TV interview
In addition to the on-court incident, the NBA issued another $25.000 fine for offensive language used by Ball during a postgame television interview.
Ball showed willingness to address the situation afterward, describing the play as something that happened in the heat of the moment and saying he intended to check on Adebayo’s condition.
Meanwhile, social media has resurfaced an earlier incident between the two dating back to a 2024 matchup, when the Hornets guard was seen on the floor moving toward Adebayo’s leg during a transition play. A detail that has only added fuel to the fire.
