On Thursday, April 16, 2026, three important bills (Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill 2026, Delimitation Bill 2026 and Union Territory Amendment Bill 2026) have been introduced in the Lok Sabha by the Central Government. Under these proposals, arrangements will be made to provide 33 percent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and all state assemblies from the year 2029. There was a lot of uproar during the discussion on the delimitation bill in the House. The opposition parties directly accused the government and said that this bill is being brought in a wrong way for electoral gains. At the same time, Akhilesh Yadav also cornered the BJP government on the issue of census and made serious allegations.

Amidst the uproar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha on the Women’s Reservation Bill and Delimitation Bill. The Prime Minister appealed to all political parties in the House to support the bill. PM Modi directly said that there will be no discrimination against any state in delimitation. He said, all of us in this House have an auspicious opportunity to add a new dimension to this development journey.

PM Modi said, this is a historic moment for the country and we all can consider ourselves fortunate to be witness to this period of change. He further said, we do not want credit. As soon as this is passed, I am ready to give thanks and credit to everyone tomorrow, ready to print everyone’s photo. Take credit. Whatever photo you want to get printed, I am ready to get it printed at government expense.

Situation is clear on delimitation, there will be no change in the ratio – PM Modi

PM Modi said that there will be no change in the proportion of the delimitation done during the tenure of the previous government, and the growth will also be in the same proportion. If I want a guarantee, I give a guarantee. If I want a promise, I give a promise. Because if the intention is clear then there is no need to play with words. The Prime Minister said, we MPs should not let this important opportunity slip away. Together we are going to give a new direction to the country. We are going to try hard to bring sensitivity in our governance system. This will not only shape the country’s politics, but will also decide the direction and condition of the country.

PM Modi stressed on ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’

PM Modi said that India is moving forward in the 21st century with a new confidence. We all are feeling India’s identity in the world today. This is a proud moment for all of us. I believe that ‘developed India’ does not just mean railways, roads, infrastructure, or economic or growth figures. We are not people with such a limited view of ‘developed India’. We want a ‘Developed India’ where policy-making truly adopts the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. It is the need of the hour that 50% of the country’s population should be a part of policy-making.

Prime Minister Modi said, the women power of the country will never forgive our mistake of intentions. My appeal to all of you is not to weigh this with political scales, this is a decision in national interest. In this new House in 2023, we unanimously accepted the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. There was an atmosphere of happiness in the entire country and there was no political color attached to it, hence it did not become a political issue.

PM Modi further said, the need of the hour is that we should not delay further. Meanwhile, talks have been held with political party members, informed people and those working as activists. Some people have even given their suggestions. Some of these shortcomings will have to be removed. So that we can unite the power of our mothers and sisters.

What is Delimitation Bill 2026?

The Central Government has introduced the Delimitation Bill 2026 in the House. Under this, after the constitutional amendment, the number of Lok Sabha members will be increased from the current 543 to 850. There will be 815 seats for states and 35 seats for union territories. For this, a proposal has been made to amend Article 81 of the Constitution. However, the government has introduced all three bills only in the Lok Sabha. Has not appeared in Rajya Sabha.

When will all three bills be presented in Rajya Sabha?

According to the information, for the three bills which have been presented in the Lok Sabha, voting will be held on April 17 after discussion in the Lok Sabha, whereas if we talk about the Rajya Sabha, then these three bills will be presented on April 18.
