Women’s reservation. As soon as the three-day special session of Parliament began on Thursday, three important bills to women’s reservation and delimitation were introduced in the House. During the discussion on these bills, the atmosphere in the Lok Sabha appeared very heated and a heated debate was witnessed between the ruling party and the opposition. Samajwadi Party cornered the government regarding census and women’s reservation. SP MP Dharmendra Yadav, while opposing the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill 2026 and Delimitation Bill 2026, said that a separate quota should be fixed for backward caste women in women’s reservation.

SP also said that it is not right to separate women’s reservation from census and delimitation, because without correct data it will be difficult to determine its benefits. Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also raised questions on the government, saying that he is not against women’s reservation, but the government should clarify why the census has not been conducted yet. Responding to these allegations, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the census process has started and this time the government has also decided to conduct caste census.

During the debate, Amit Shah took a jibe at SP and said that if Samajwadi Party had a chance, it would have divided every house into castes. On the demand of Dharmendra Yadav to give reservation to Muslim women, he clearly said that giving reservation on the basis of religion is against the Constitution and it cannot be allowed. Shah also quipped that if the Samajwadi Party wants, it can give all the tickets in its party to Muslim women, we have no objection in this.
