Patna News: A shocking murder case involving an engineering student in Bihar's Patna has finally been resolved. Authorities have revealed that the victim's life was taken by her boyfriend and college mate, Atharv Srivastava. Following the crime, the suspect fled the scene, locking the room from the outside, but has since been apprehended by the police.
The deceased has been identified as Anupama, a resident of Aurangabad district, who was in her final year of B.Tech diploma studies in Bihta. The accused, Atharv Srivastava, hails from Buxar. On the night of the incident, he visited Anupama's rented accommodation in Raghopur under the pretense of delivering a laptop.
Marriage Pressure Led to the Murder
City SP West Bhanu Pratap Singh disclosed that Anupama and Atharv had been in a relationship for a considerable time. Anupama had been pressuring Atharv to marry her, but he was unwilling. Their argument escalated on Sunday night, leading to Atharv strangling Anupama in a fit of rage.
Captured Through CCTV and Technical Investigation
Upon receiving news of the incident, the police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and collected evidence from the scene with the help of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). A review of nearby CCTV footage and call detail records (CDR) intensified suspicion on Atharv. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. Authorities have clarified that further details will emerge after the post-mortem report, although there is currently no confirmation of any sexual assault.
Family in Mourning
Anupama was a beacon of hope for her family, set to complete her engineering studies. The tragedy has cast a pall of grief over her native village in Aurangabad. The accused has been remanded to jail, and legal proceedings are underway.
