Royal Challengers Bengaluru delivered a composed and commanding performance to secure a five-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL 2026 clash at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, with Virat Kohli, Rasikh Salam Dar, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar emerging as the key figures.
There are matches where statistics quietly tell the story, and then there are contests where they underline a clear imbalance. This game belonged firmly to the latter, as RCB asserted control early and never allowed it to slip.
Put in to bat, Lucknow Super Giants struggled to build momentum and were bowled out for 146 in 20 overs—a total that never truly threatened on a batting-friendly surface. Mitchell Marsh led the scoring with 40 off 32 balls, while Ayush Badoni (38 off 24) and Mukul Choudhary (39 off 28) offered some resistance.
However, regular setbacks derailed their innings. Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran fell cheaply for just one run each, while Abdul Samad was dismissed without scoring. The lack of partnerships meant LSG never found rhythm and their innings faded without a strong finish.
RCB’s bowling attack was sharp and disciplined. Rasikh Salam Dar produced a standout spell of 4 for 24, striking at key moments. He removed Aiden Markram early, dismissed Badoni with a clever slower delivery, and returned to clean up the lower order, including Avesh Khan.
At the other end, Bhuvneshwar Kumar showcased his experience, finishing with 3 for 27. He struck at crucial junctures, dismissing Pant, Mohammad Shami, and George Linde, ensuring LSG never recovered. Krunal Pandya also contributed with two wickets, reaching the milestone of 100 IPL wickets in the process.
Chasing 147, Royal Challengers Bengaluru approached the target with calm assurance. The innings was built on control rather than aggression, with Kohli anchoring the chase beautifully. His 49 runs came through smart shot selection, steady strike rotation, and timely boundaries, keeping the chase firmly on track.
Jitesh Sharma added 23 valuable runs, maintaining the tempo during the middle overs, while Tim David remained unbeaten on 14 to guide the team home with ease.
RCB never allowed the required run rate to climb, treating the chase as a process rather than a pressure situation. Even as wickets fell, there was no panic—only measured adjustments and steady progress.
In the end, RCB crossed the line comfortably with five wickets in hand, sealing a win built on disciplined bowling, a controlled chase, and collective composure. If LSG’s innings was marked by interruptions, RCB’s reply was defined by consistency—and that proved decisive.
