Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said that in the last one and a half years, three proposals for a meeting to discuss the issues of people living in the hills of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong in North West Bengal and the demands of the Gorkhas living there were rejected by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government.

On Wednesday morning, he was to hold a public meeting at Lebong Ground in Darjeeling but due to bad weather, his helicopter could not land there, so a seven-minute video message was played at the public rally.

Home Minister Amit Shah said in a video message that I had talked about meeting three times in the last one and a half years to discuss the issues of Hills and Gorkhas, but Mamata Banerjee did not send any of her representatives to New Delhi to discuss the matter. She does not want the Gorkhas living in Darjeeling to get justice and their legitimate rights.

The Home Minister said that you should not worry. After the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state on May 5, our first task will be to solve the problems of the Gorkhas. All complaints and cases previously filed against Gorkhas regarding the Gorkhaland movement will be withdrawn.

Expressing regret over not being able to attend the meeting, he said that he would again come to Sukna in Darjeeling district on April 21, which would be the last day of the campaign for the first of the two phases of elections to be held on April 23.

He said that I have been roaming in the state for the last few days. My experience says that this time BJP’s victory is certain in West Bengal. Then the days of illegal infiltration, corruption and hooliganism will end.
