A Hong Kong doctor has been dismissed after posting on social media a photo showing a resuscitation scene taken at a public hospital, in a case the Hospital Authority said breached its code of conduct.

The authority said on April 7 that it had ended the contract of doctor Jenson So, one day after announcing that he was no longer employed, the South China Morning Post reported.

“We confirm that the staff member breached the code of conduct and lacked integrity, with such behaviours seriously damaging the professional image of doctors,” it said.

“The cluster has terminated its contract with the staff involved. It has passed the relevant case to the Medical Council for follow-up in accordance with its mechanism.”

So, a doctor with the Kowloon West Cluster and a former contestant on ViuTV’s reality show King Maker III, posted an image of himself performing a resuscitation procedure in a public hospital ward to his Instagram in late March, according to the Standard.

The image showed him holding medical equipment with the caption: “A rarely seen cardioversion – everyone has come to watch me deliver the electric shock.”

So quickly deleted his post after drawing online criticism over patient privacy breaches and switched his account from public to private.

He later said on Instagram Stories that a former colleague he had reported for serious professional misconduct was targeting him.

He said the image was taken two years earlier during a drill and was originally shared only among doctors before being circulated in a way that made it appear he was showing off online.

Reports said So was later removed from the hospital’s internal WhatsApp groups and was not included in the following month’s duty roster.
