Tesco makes major Clubcard change with service axed next week

Tesco customers have been warned about an upcoming change that could impact thousands of customers. The supermarket is axing its Clubcard Pay+ accounts. The service, first introduced in 2022, allowed shoppers to load money onto a card that can be used at Tesco and for other services, such as Netflix and Amazon, while earning Clubcard points on purchases.

However, now both the debit card and its linked round-up savings account will be closed from April 26. Clubcard Pay+ holders have now been urged to withdraw any remaining funds from the card as soon as possible.

To reclaim any remaining balances on the card, customers can use the Clubcard Pay+ app. From there, you can transfer the money into your bank account. While any remaining balances on accounts will be automatically returned to customers, the process is likely to take much longer than if you did it yourself.

Those with funds in a Round Up savings account must first transfer the balance into their main Pay+ account before moving it elsewhere.

A spokesperson for Tesco Bank said: "After a careful review, and due to limited usage of the product, we made the decision to close Clubcard Pay+ accounts for existing customers from Sunday, April 26, 2026.

"We first wrote to customers in November 2025 to inform them of the closure, with follow-up communications sent to all customers in recent weeks."

Account holders have been advised to check whether their contact details are also up to date, in case any final statements are issued and funds need to be returned. And, payment details for any subscriptions linked to the card should also be updated.

Tesco Bank said that those using the card for services such as Netflix or Amazon should change their payment method before April 26.

Those who would like to continue collecting Clubcard points can do so, but will need a separate Clubcard, which can be used digitally through the Tesco app or as a physical card.
