Who was Trijata: There are many such characters in Ramayana, whose role seems small but their impact is very big. One such unheard but impressive story is that of a demon named Trijata, whom Mother Sita called mother.
Who was Trijata and why did she get the title of mother?
Trijata was a demon from Lanka, who despite being Ravana’s servant, had different thinking from other demons. Sita told him of her sorrows and pains, and even asked for help in lighting the pyre. At that time Trijata explained, stopped and handled her like a true mother. That is why Sita gave him the status of a mother which no one else got.
Why was Trijata different despite being a demon?
Trijata’s ancestors were servants of Lanka and they also served Ravana as per tradition. In old age, she was made the head of Ashok Vatika. His three special qualities were faith in God, devotion to duty and understanding of right and wrong. This was the reason why she stood out among the crowd of demons and people started calling her Trijata sarcastically.
Played the biggest role in protecting Sita
When Ravana abducted Sita and kept her in Ashoka Vatika, Trijata became his biggest support.
- He told Sita that due to the curse Ravana could not touch her without permission.
- Prevented other demons from harassing Sita
- Spread the news to Vibhishan and others
He protected Sita at every stage and maintained her morale.
Dream Monkey Lanka continues Trijata’s prophetic dream
A famous dream of Trijata is described in Ramcharitmanas, “Sapne Vanar Lanka continues, Jatudhan army killed everything” It means that the monkeys set fire to Lanka and destroyed the demon army. This dream was not just an imagination, but was a sign of Ravana’s downfall, which later took the form of truth.
Ravana’s plan also failed
During the war, Ravana made a fake head and showed it to Sita, so that she would give up her life in despair. But Trijata recognized this deceit and protected Sita by telling her the truth.
Journey from Rakshasi to Sadhvi
There is not much mention of Trijata at the end of the story of Ramayana, but according to the stories, he dedicated his life to religion and devotion. It is said that his temple still exists in Kashi, where women worship for the protection of their husbands.
Why is Trijata remembered?
The story of Trijata teaches us that a person who supports truth and righteousness, no matter what the circumstances, definitely gets respect in the end. He not only protected Sita but also played an important role in Ram’s victory.
