Fujisawa is a coastal city in Japan. Thousands of people descended on the road there. Recently a mosque has been planned to be built in that city. Many local citizens roared in protest. Their statement, “We do not want a single mosque in our city.” The video of the huge protest has gone viral on social media. A debate has also started on the issue. Japanese citizens are giving opinions for and against.

As seen in the viral video, thousands of people took to the streets with posters and placards opposing the construction of mosques in the city. They are also chanting slogans. Sources say this is not an isolated incident. The Muslim population in the Land of the Rising Sun has been growing rapidly over the past few decades. On the other hand, the ancient inhabitants of Japan mainly followed Shinto and Buddhism. Some of them claim that with the increase in Muslim population, unrest is increasing in the country of peace. They also have objections to calling the azaan with a microphone in public.

Meanwhile, a representative of the proposed ‘Fujisawa Mosque’ tried to calm the situation after the protest march. “We love Japan. We will abide by all the rules,” he said, adding that many locals fear a “demographic shift”. A section of netizens, however, is in favor of the protesters. According to them, the people of Japan have taken the right steps before it is too late like India and London. Others, however, have raised legal questions. According to them, first we have to see if there is an administrative permission to build a mosque.
