The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways announced on Monday that the Indian-flagged vessel 'Jag Vikram', carrying 20,400 metric tons of LPG, is expected to reach Kandla, Gujarat, on April 14. During an inter-ministerial briefing, Additional Secretary Mukesh Mangal revealed that the ship, with a crew of 24 sailors, successfully crossed the Hormuz Strait on April 11.

Tamilisai Soundararajan, the BJP candidate from the Mylapore constituency, criticized the DMK during her campaign for the upcoming elections, highlighting the lack of infrastructure in Chennai. She emphasized the severe underdevelopment in the constituency, stating, 'You cannot even imagine the level of backwardness here.' She assured that all noted issues would be addressed and expressed confidence in securing over 200 seats in Tamil Nadu.

This transit marks a significant milestone for New Delhi, as it is the first Indian ship to navigate through a strategic corridor following a declared 14-day ceasefire aimed at reducing regional hostilities between the U.S. and Iran. Mukesh Mangal confirmed that the LPG vessel 'Jag Vikram', which crossed the Hormuz Strait on April 11, is on track to arrive in Kandla on April 14.

The Additional Secretary provided reassuring updates regarding the safety of ships and crew members in the Gulf region, stating that there have been no incidents involving Indian vessels in the past 24 hours. He noted, 'We have not received any reports of incidents related to Indian-flagged ships during this period.' The ministry has successfully ensured the safe return of over 2,177 Indian sailors, including 93 in the last 24 hours.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to the welfare of sailors and the smooth operation of maritime activities, appreciating the ongoing coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian embassies, and maritime stakeholders. Furthermore, it was stated that operations at all Indian ports are normal, with no reports of congestion. The significance of 'Jag Vikram's' route is underscored by the fact that nearly 90% of India's liquefied petroleum gas imports come from Gulf countries.
