At one time, WhatsApp was an app used solely for chatting. However, today, numerous features have arrived on the platform that set it apart from other instant messaging apps. WhatsApp Status is one such feature. Furthermore, a key characteristic of WhatsApp is its continuous effort to enhance its existing features. Until now, you could only view the statuses of saved contacts on WhatsApp; however, this capability will soon be extended to unsaved contacts as well. Yes—according to the latest reports—a new feature is set to arrive on WhatsApp soon, enabling you to view the statuses of numbers you haven't even saved in your contact list. Let's explore all the details regarding this feature.

A recent report by WABetaInfo, referencing WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.14.9, reveals that a new feature is soon to be integrated into the app. With the help of this feature, users will be able to view the WhatsApp statuses of unsaved contacts. Specifically, these will be contacts with whom you have recently chatted or made a WhatsApp call. Often, we send messages or make calls to people on WhatsApp without saving their numbers. In the near future, you will be able to view the statuses of precisely these types of contacts.

The report also includes a screenshot of this upcoming feature. The screenshot illustrates that whenever you encounter a status from an unsaved number on WhatsApp, a tilde symbol (~) will appear next to that contact's name.

This indicator will signify that while the number is not included in your contact list, you have recently interacted with that person via WhatsApp. As seen in the shared screenshot, details regarding this new feature are displayed at the bottom of the screen. Furthermore, if you wish to prevent a contact—whom neither you nor they have saved—from viewing your WhatsApp Status, you will also have the option to block them from doing so.

Currently, the company has rolled out this feature to a select group of users for beta testing. However, following the testing phase, it is likely to be rolled out to all other users. WhatsApp has not yet released any official information regarding this feature.
