Ram Gopal Varma took a trip down memory lane as he paid tribute to Asha Bhosle following her sudden passing.
In an exclusive interview with SCREENRGV recalled how the legendary singer changed the course of Bollywood music with Rangeela Re.
Heaping praise on the late artist, he said, “Rangeela Re wasn’t just a song. It was a thunderclap that shook Bollywood.”
In addition, he claimed that Bhosle’s vocals were vital to the film’s success and continue to resonate across generations to date.
He added, “Asha ji’s playful sensuality, mischievous energy, and unimaginable vocal range created pure cinematic magic that redefined the rebellious spirit of the film’s music.”
Varma explained that while Aamir Khan was still trying to establish his name in the industry at the time, it was Jackie Shroff and Asha Bhosle who gave the film its turning point.
RGV also referred to the Queen of Bollywood as his all-time favourite singer, highlighting that she not only became the heartbeat of an entire era but also bridged classical roots with modern beats at an early stage in her career.
For the unversed, Bhosle passed away on Sunday, April 12, after suffering from multiple organ failure.
