Main candidate for Gobichettipalayam seat

This time a direct contest is being seen between four major candidates in the Gobichettipalayam assembly seat:

    • AIADMK: V.B. Lord

    • DMK: N. Nallasivam

    • TVK: K.A. sengottaiyan

    • NTK: MK sitalakshmi

This seat falls in the Kongu region of western Tamil Nadu, which is considered very important politically.

Why is Gobichettipalayam seat special?

Gobichettipalayam is counted among the most strategic seats of Tamil Nadu. This is an influential area of Kongu Vellala Gounder community, where caste equations play a decisive role in the election outcome. This region is based on agriculture and textile industry, hence farmers’ problems, irrigation, electricity, employment and business development remain the major election issues here. This seat has been considered historically strong for the AIADMK, especially with former MLA K.A. Due to Sengottaiyan’s long political influence.

voter equation

According to 2021 data, there are approximately 2.37 lakh voters in this seat. These:

    • Scheduled Caste (SC) Voters: Around 15–20%

    • Rest of the voters: OBC, Kongu community and other backward classes

    • urban and rural mixed population

This diverse social structure can make victory easy or difficult for any candidate.

2021 election results

In the last assembly elections, AIADMK had registered a big victory on this seat.

    • AIADMK candidate: Around 1,08,608 votes

    • DMK candidate: Around 80,045 votes

    • Margin of victory: 28,563 votes

This difference shows that this seat has traditionally been a stronghold of the AIADMK. The biggest change in the 2026 elections is that former MLA K.A. The equation has changed with Sengottaiyan’s political influence now being associated with TVK. Due to this, the traditional hold of AIADMK is considered weak.
