Delhi Government’s New EV Policy: Delhi’s Rekha Gupta government is going to implement a new EV policy to improve the air quality in the capital. Under this policy, special emphasis has been laid on purchase incentives, tax exemptions, mandatory provisions and development of infrastructure for electric vehicles. In the draft proposed by the Delhi government, it has been said that this policy will be implemented till 31 March 2030.

According to an official statement issued by the Delhi Government, the draft Delhi EV Policy 2026 proposed by the Delhi Government is an important step towards establishing a clean, accessible and sustainable transportation system in the capital. According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, this policy will remain in force till March 31, 2030 and under this, a provision of Rs 3954.25 crore has been made to promote electric vehicles. “The policy has special emphasis on purchase incentives, tax exemptions, mandatory provisions and infrastructure development, wherein attractive benefits will be offered on two, three and four wheeler electric vehicles.”
The government statement further said- “All purchase incentives under this policy will be given to the eligible beneficiaries through direct benefit transfer. For electric two-wheelers, the incentive will be given at the rate of Rs 10,000 per kilowatt hour in the first year up to a maximum of Rs 30,000, which will be reduced in the second and third years respectively. For electric three-wheelers (L5M) vehicles, the incentive will be Rs 50,000 in the first year and for electric four-wheeler goods vehicles (N1) An incentive of up to Rs 1,00,000 has been fixed. Apart from this, scrapping incentive will also be given for removal of old polluting vehicles, in which separate financial assistance has been fixed for two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
According to the press release, “Under the policy, electric vehicles will be given up to 100 percent exemption in road tax and registration fees and special attention will be given to the expansion of charging and battery swapping infrastructure. Clear provisions have also been made for the future, according to which new registrations of only electric three-wheelers will be done from January 1, 2027 and only electric two-wheelers from April 1, 2028. Also, electric vehicles will be made mandatory in government fleets, school buses and other transport modes in a phased manner. “, which will help in reducing pollution and promoting modern transportation system.”
