Air fryers are one of the most popular kitchen appliances around right now, and for good reason. They're quick and easy to use, and since they don't need as much oil as traditional cooking methods, it's a healthier way to prepare food.

If you've got an air fryer in the kitchen, you'll know that they need cleaned regularly. Food build-up in the basket not only ruins its appearance, but it can also make it less efficient and even more of a fire risk. But cleaning it doesn't have to be difficult, as there's a simple solution that involves no scrubbing and just 15 minutes of your time.

TikToker Neal_Cleans urged people to 'work smarter' when it comes to cleaning air fryers. She said the best way to ensure your appliance keeps on running is to clean it after every use.

While this might sound excessive, it's a lot easier than you might think. You'll only need two household ingredients, one of which you'll definitely already have at home.

In her video, she said: "I've tried a few methods but this one is my favourite."

How to clean your air fryer

For a sparkling clean air fryer with no stubborn food pieces stuck to the bottom, all you need is a squeeze of washing up liquid and some bicarbonate of soda.

If you don't have any bicarb at home, Neal recommended picking some up for as little as £1.19 from B&M.

Sprinkle it into your air fryer when it's switched off and cool, then add in any washing up liquid that you have at home, followed by some boiling water.

Leave it to sit for 15 minutes to work its magic, and then give it a quick rinse. You should notice the food debris lifting off without the need to scrub too hard, making this the perfect low-maintenance hack.

Neal said: "I find this method means I rarely ever need to scrub anything.

"A 15 minute soak isn't going to give you a brand new air fryer if you haven't touched it in a year, but for regular cleans it does the job."

She then sprayed some Elbow Grease on to the exterior of the air fryer and gave it a wipe down to remove any dust or fingerprints, and the job was done.
