Ishan Kishan, the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, expressed disappointment over his team's execution during critical moments after their defeat to Punjab Kings in the IPL 2026 match held in Mullanpur on Saturday.
In the post-match presentation, Kishan analyzed SRH's batting, noting that they had the capability to score significantly more runs after a strong start but failed to capitalize later in the innings. "We could have reached at least 240 runs. But, things happen. Our execution wasn't up to par," Kishan remarked.
He stressed the importance of executing plans effectively in T20 cricket, especially under pressure. "As I mentioned before, executing your good deliveries is crucial in T20. We didn't perform well in that aspect today," he added.
SRH managed to score 219 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs, having initially been in a strong position. Kishan acknowledged that the openers set a solid foundation, which led them to aim for a total exceeding 240 runs. "I believed 219 was a decent score, but given our strong start, we thought we could achieve 240," he stated. However, he pointed out that their inability to adapt to the opposition's batting strategies cost them in the second innings. "We were lacking in that area, which was evident in their batting," Kishan noted.
Punjab Kings Execute Record Chase
Punjab Kings successfully completed a record chase, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets in a thrilling match at Mullanpur, surpassing a daunting target of 220 runs with seven balls remaining.
