New Delhi. The government has issued a big alert for those doing online investment and trading. In the rapidly growing fake trading app scam, cyber thugs are creating mobile apps that look like real platforms. People download them and invest huge amounts of money, lured by the initial “profit”, but later their money gets stuck and becomes difficult to withdraw.

The government has said that such cases are increasing continuously and people should do thorough investigation before investing. These apps initially show users good returns on small investments, which builds trust. After this, after investing a huge amount, the fraudsters make the money disappear.

This is how the whole scam works

Cyber thugs first contact through WhatsApp, Telegram or social media. After this they ask to download an app. Initially, fake profits are shown and then the money is trapped by investing huge amounts.

The government has given three important tips to avoid this type of fraud:

    1. Before sending money, check your account and UPI ID.

Never transfer money without checking. Fraudsters get money by creating bank accounts or UPI IDs in different names. The name may sound like that of a company or expert, but verification is necessary before trusting it.

    2. Verify before downloading the app

Before downloading any investment app, check these things:

Download apps only from Google Play Store or Apple App Store
    Check out reviews and ratings
    Check developer information
Stay away from apps with low reviews or questionable information
    3. If you suspect fraud, complain immediately

If you think you are being scammed, take immediate action:

    Call Cyber Helpline 1930
File complaint on cyber crime portal
    Notify your bank immediately
