AIADMK has lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India, alleging that the DMK is unlawfully utilizing the Tamil Nadu government's Information and Public Relations Department for its election campaign. In a letter addressed to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik, AIADMK MP I.S. Inbadurai claimed that government resources are being employed for live streaming on the "DMK4TN" YouTube channel, with campaign news being disseminated through a private Gmail account.
The complaint further states that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, along with several officials, including Joint Director Prabhu Kumar, has been using government press vehicles to gather and distribute campaign materials. According to AIADMK, various departments, including the Tamil Nadu Film Department and social media units, are allegedly engaged in biased activities, with staff reportedly being coerced into participating. The party has labeled these actions as a serious violation of the model code of conduct and has urged the Election Commission to investigate, transfer the involved officials, seize misused equipment, and ensure fair elections under direct supervision of the commission.
Speaking about the complaint, AIADMK MP I.S. Inbadurai criticized Chief Minister Stalin for the alleged violations, referencing a 1975 Allahabad High Court ruling that found former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi guilty of misconduct and misuse of government machinery during her campaign.
He mentioned that a complaint has been filed with the Chief Electoral Officer, alleging that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi is touring the state for campaign purposes. Government officials are reportedly accompanying the Chief Minister, covering the campaign and distributing information to the press, which constitutes a clear breach of the model code of conduct. Specific officials, including the Joint Director of Public Relations, a temporary videographer, and departmental drivers, are traveling with the Chief Minister, further violating the code. In 1975, the Allahabad High Court annulled Indira Gandhi's election in the case against Raj Narayan, drawing parallels to the current situation where the Chief Minister is utilizing government officials for campaigning.
