Maharashtra. Famous stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra appeared before a committee of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
After appearing before the committee, Kamra also wrote on social media that he stood by his statement and would not give a false or formal apology. After a notice of breach of privilege was issued against him, an assembly committee was formed to investigate the matter.
Questions asked in committee
Committee Chairman Prasad Lad said that about 24 questions were asked to Kamra. He was asked if he regretted his statement, to which he denied. On the question of apologizing, he clearly said that if they apologize, it will not be sincere and it will have a negative impact on the freedom of expression of the artists.
Committee’s stance on apology
The committee told Kamra that if he tendered an unconditional apology, the matter could be considered differently. On this his lawyer said that he will discuss this matter and give a written reply through email.
It is noteworthy that the complaint in this matter was lodged by Praveen Darekar, who is a Legislative Council member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
