News India Live, Digital Desk: US President Donald Trump has taken the toughest stand till date regarding the world’s most important oil route ‘Strait of Hormuz’. Just before the historic peace talks with Iran in Islamabad, Pakistan, Trump has bluntly said that ‘whether there is a deal or not’, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened in any case and very soon. Trump’s statement has made it clear that if diplomacy fails, America will not back down from the use of military power. ‘Iran has no cards left’: Trump’s direct warning. Speaking to reporters while leaving Washington, Trump said in his usual aggressive style, “We will open the Gulf, with or without them (Iran). I think it will happen very quickly, and if it doesn’t happen, we will end it in our own way.” Trump claimed that Iran now has no strong cards left on the negotiating table, except its threat to choke global oil supplies. He made it clear that his biggest priority is to ensure that Iran can never acquire nuclear weapons. ‘Make or break’ situation in Islamabad The talks being mediated by Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif are being described as a ‘make or break’ moment. The US delegation is led by Vice President JD Vance, who has reached Islamabad along with Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff. Vance has indicated that if Iran talks in good faith, the US is ready to join hands, but in case of playing ‘game’ the consequences will be extremely serious. Siege of Hormuz and the global oil crisis One-fifth of the world’s crude oil passes through this narrow passage. There has been a huge surge in oil prices in the international market since Iran’s efforts to shut it down. Following Trump’s warning, US Navy warships are already deployed in the area. Defense experts believe that Trump’s statement ‘with and without Iran’ is an indication that America can now start direct operations for ‘mine-sweeping’ (removing landmines) and providing security to tankers. Will Tehran be forced to bow down? A large delegation of Iran, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi, has already reached Islamabad. However, Iran has stipulated that unless its frozen funds are released and there is a ceasefire in Lebanon, a permanent agreement is difficult.
