Iran’s state media on Friday completely rejected the reports which claimed that its senior officials have reached Pakistan for talks with America. After this statement, uncertainty regarding the proposed peace talks in Islamabad has increased further.

Iranian leaders did not leave for Islamabad

Iran’s official channel Press TV quoted the news agency as saying that neither Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi nor Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Kalibaf have left the country. According to reliable sources, both the leaders are present in Tehran and busy in their official work.

A source clearly said that some media organizations are spreading the news that the Iranian talks team has reached Islamabad, which is completely wrong. Iran reiterated that talks will not move forward unless the US adheres to its commitments regarding a ceasefire in Lebanon and Israeli attacks continue.

This reaction came after the report of the American newspaper, which said that an Iranian delegation had reached Islamabad on Thursday night. At the same time, a news agency also rejected this claim and said that Iran has no plans to join any talks with America until there is a permanent ceasefire in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Raza Aamir Moghaddam had earlier indicated that a 10-member delegation would reach Islamabad. However, he withdrew his statement after Israeli air strikes in Lebanon, making the situation more unclear.

Masood Pejeshkian expressed concern

Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian also expressed concern over Israel’s latest attacks and said such steps could harm diplomatic efforts. He warned that Iran will not abandon its allies.

On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump have said that the two-week ceasefire does not apply to Lebanon. Meanwhile, the recent horrific attacks have further increased the tension in the region.

Despite uncertainty, Pakistan has continued preparations for talks. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had announced to hold talks on April 10. Tight security arrangements have been made and deployment of Army and Rangers has been increased in the Red Zone of Islamabad. However, there has been no official confirmation of the arrival of any delegation yet.
