Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has taken a significant step towards building a robust downstream ecosystem by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two prominent manufacturing companies — Singhal Steel & Power Pvt. Ltd (a unit of Singhal Group of Industries) and SCOT-AL Metcon Pvt. Ltd (an associate company of Scottish Chemical Industries and UAL Industries).
The agreements pave the way for these companies to establish their aluminium downstream manufacturing facilities inside the upcoming **Vedanta Aluminium Park** in Jharsuguda, Odisha.
The MoU signing ceremony took place in Bhubaneswar in the presence of senior Odisha government officials, including Sampad Chandra Swain, Minister of State for Industries, Skill Development & Technical Education, and Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Industries.
Boost to Value Addition, Investment and Employment
The Vedanta Aluminium Park is envisioned as a world-class industrial ecosystem dedicated to downstream aluminium industries. Spread over approximately 56 acres in its first phase (part of a larger ~253-acre project), the park aims to promote value-added manufacturing, support MSMEs, and position Odisha as a global aluminium hub.
The initiative is expected to attract fresh investments of over INR 500 crores and generate around 1,500 direct and indirect employment opportunities in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Industry Minister Sampad Chandra Swain said, “This initiative reinforces Odisha’s position as a leading industrial destination. The Vedanta Aluminium Park will accelerate investments, create large-scale employment and strengthen the state’s manufacturing capabilities across sectors.”
ACS Hemant Sharma added, “The Vedanta Aluminium Park is a critical step in deepening Odisha’s industrial value chain. By combining infrastructure readiness with policy support, we are creating a platform that enables industries to scale efficiently and competitively.”
Vedanta’s Commitment to Downstream Growth
Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, remarked: “The Vedanta Aluminium Park reflects our commitment to moving beyond primary production towards value-added manufacturing. By enabling a strong downstream ecosystem, we aim to unlock new opportunities for industries, MSMEs and local entrepreneurs, while further strengthening Odisha’s position in the global aluminium manufacturing landscape.”
C Chandru, CEO, Vedanta Jharsuguda, said: “Jharsuguda continues to be at the heart of Vedanta Aluminium’s growth journey. The Vedanta Aluminium Park will not only strengthen the downstream ecosystem but also create sustainable livelihoods, foster entrepreneurship, and contribute to the development of the region. We are proud to partner with the Government of Odisha in building a globally competitive manufacturing hub.”
The park offers unique advantages, including ready access to molten aluminium (hot metal) from Vedanta’s world-class smelter complex in Jharsuguda, plug-and-play infrastructure, reduced logistics costs, lower energy consumption, and faster production cycles. It aligns with the Government of Odisha’s vision for industrial diversification and future-ready infrastructure.
This development marks the first set of MoUs for the Aluminium Park and is expected to act as a catalyst for attracting more downstream players in the coming months.
