Lucknow. Giving great relief to the teachers and non-teaching staff of the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken an important decision of increasing the maximum limit of gratuity. Under this decision, the maximum amount of gratuity to be received in case of retirement or death during service has been increased from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.
This decision will be applicable to teachers and employees working in Basic Education Council and non-government aided schools. This move of the government is expected to directly benefit thousands of employees, especially those who are going to retire soon.
Who will get the benefit?
According to the new system, this increased gratuity will be given only to those employees whose dearness allowance (DA) has reached 50 percent of their basic salary. Along with this, those employees who have opted for retirement at the age of 60 years will also be eligible for this scheme.
when will it come into effect
According to the order issued by the Basic Education Department, this revised system will be considered effective from January 1, 2024. That means only those employees retiring on or after this date will get the benefit of the increased limit. This rule will not apply to employees who have retired before this.
What was the situation before?
Earlier, under the order issued in the year 2017, the maximum limit of gratuity was fixed at Rs 20 lakh. This limit was decided on the basis of the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission. Now it has been amended keeping in mind the financial rules and increase in dearness allowance.
Limit increased by 25 percent
Under the new system, the maximum limit of gratuity has been increased by about 25 percent. This means that now eligible employees will be able to get more financial assistance at the time of retirement than before. This decision is being considered an important step towards strengthening the social and economic security of the employees.
