Questions raised again on WhatsApp Encryption

WhatsApp Encryption: Questions have once again started to arise regarding the encryption of Meta's messaging platform WhatsApp . WhatsApp claims that all messages on its platform are end-to-end encrypted and no one other than the sender and receiver can read them. Now, questions are being raised about this claim. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov and American billionaire Elon Musk have surrounded Meta's platform regarding user data safety. Actually, recently a report came in which WhatsApp was accused of accessing users' messages. Meta has denied this report.

After this report, questions started arising on WhatsApp encryption.

According to reports, WhatsApp messages can be accessed by third parties for moderation. External firms involved in this process have access to some user content. Durov highlighted this report and accused WhatsApp of this.

Pavel Durov and Elon Musk surround WhatsApp.

Durov criticized WhatsApp, saying that the company's encryption system constitutes the biggest consumer fraud in history. He alleged that the platform misleads users about the security of their conversations. Users' messages can be accessed by employees of third-party contractors, raising concerns about data privacy. Musk has also stated that WhatsApp cannot be trusted. He wrote on Twitter that WhatsApp cannot be trusted. He also promoted his own platform's messaging service. It should be noted that both Musk and Durov are competitors of WhatsApp.

How has Meta responded to the allegations?

Meta has denied the allegations against WhatsApp, calling them false. The company stated that WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption based on the Signal Protocol, which ensures that only the sender and receiver can read messages. The company stated that its moderation system does not break encryption. The company relies on user reports rather than directly accessing chats.

Questions have been raised on WhatsApp encryption before.

This isn't the first time WhatsApp encryption has been questioned. Last year, cybersecurity expert Nana Sei Anyemedu exposed the company's system in a demo. Anyemedu explained that messages remain private during transmission, but are no longer encrypted once they reach the receiver's device. By unlocking, decrypting, or accessing the device through forensic tools, the entire message timeline, timestamps, and participant details, along with photos, videos, voice notes, and attached documents, can be extracted.
