On the early hours of Friday, social media users woke up to the shock of Vijay’s upcoming and possibly last film Jana Supervisor was leaked online on pirated sites, enraging film enthusiasts and fans of the actor. Condemning the act, several prominent faces from the Tamil cinema industry voiced their concern on piracy and urged people to respect filmmakers and the hard work that goes behind making films.
Sivakarthikeyan underlined the same, saying, “Whoever is responsible for this must face strict action.” Actor-composer-producer Vijay Antony too expressed his sadness on the issue requesting everyone to “support the film through legal platforms during its release.”
Suresh Kamatchi drew parallels between the H Vinoth directorial and his latest production Salliyargal which couldn’t get required number of theatres and was eventually released on OTT. He said the “pain and loss” caused by that situation was “indescribable”. Understanding the issues that has plagued the Vijay-starrer, he said, “Jana Nayagan is a big-budget film. The fact that it couldn’t reach theatres on time itself would have caused a huge loss to the producer. Beyond that, if it has now been illegally released online, it means the producer has to bear the entire loss, which is truly painful.” Calling it a “criminal act”, he said that such an incident should never happen again.
“Such thieves should be completely removed from the industry. There must be consequences severe enough to ensure that those who exploit others’ efforts never dare to repeat such acts,” he said.
