New Delhi: Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court has officially resigned, as he faces impeachment proceedings following the discovery of bundles of burnt currency notes at his residence. Sources confirmed this development on Friday.
In his resignation letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, dated April 9, Justice Varma expressed his sorrow over the circumstances leading to his decision. He stated, "Your Excellency, I do not wish to burden your esteemed office with the reasons for my resignation, but it is with great regret that I submit my resignation from the position of Judge of the Hon'ble High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, effective immediately. It has been a privilege to serve in this role."
Previously, Justice Varma was transferred from the Delhi High Court back to the Allahabad High Court after the incident involving the burnt currency notes, which occurred on March 14 of the previous year.
