Cannes Film Festival 2026 Lineup Revealed: International and Indie Films Set to Dominate This Year..

This year's festival lineup features directors who have previously won the Palme d'Or, including Cristian Mungiu and Hirokazu Kore-eda. Additionally, the renowned Iranian director Asghar Farhadi—a two-time Oscar winner—will also be seen in the competition with his latest film.

The sole American director participating in this year's competition is Ira, who is presenting his film *The Man I Love*. The film stars Rami Malek, and its narrative is set against the backdrop of the AIDS crisis in 1980s New York.

**A Strong Asian Presence**
Meanwhile, Asghar Farhadi will make his Cannes debut with his film *Parallel Stories*. Asia also boasts a strong presence this year, with the Japanese film *Sheep in the Box* garnering particular attention. Furthermore, Korean director Na Hong-jin’s *Hope* is being hailed as one of the most exciting films of the festival, marking his first project since his previous feature, *The Wailing*.

Two-time Oscar winner Pedro Almodóvar is also competing with his film *Bitter Christmas*, which has already been released in Spain.

**95% of Lineup Announced**
Cannes Chief Thierry Frémaux revealed that approximately 95% of the festival lineup has currently been announced, with the remaining films scheduled to be unveiled in the coming weeks. He also noted that the festival received submissions from 141 countries this year—a testament to its ever-growing global popularity.

It is worth noting that the 2026 Cannes Film Festival will take place this year from May 12 to May 23, offering a global stage where the finest films from around the world will be showcased.
