digital desk- An alleged viral video has heated up the political atmosphere amid the assembly elections in West Bengal. This controversy started after a video to Humayun Kabir surfaced, after which allegations and counter-allegations have intensified among political parties. The biggest step in this entire incident has been taken by Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM, which has announced to end its alliance with Kabir’s party ‘Aam Janata Unnayan Party’ (AJUP). AIMIM issued a post on social media platform The party clarified that it cannot associate itself with any statement or activity that may tarnish the integrity or image of the Muslim community. AIMIM also announced that it will now contest elections independently in West Bengal and will not form an alliance with any political party in future.
Our aim is to give an independent political voice to marginalized communities – AIMIM
The party said in its statement that the Muslims of Bengal are among the poorest, neglected and exploited communities of the state. Despite decades of secular rule, there has been no concrete improvement in their condition. According to AIMIM, its objective has always been to give an independent political voice to the marginalized communities, and under this policy it will now contest the elections alone. In fact, on Thursday, an alleged video to Humayun Kabir went viral on social media, after which this controversy started. The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) shared this video and demanded the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to investigate the matter and take appropriate action. TMC alleges that the claims made in the video are serious and there should be an impartial investigation.
Humayun Kabir rejected the allegations
However, Humayun Kabir has completely rejected these allegations. He has termed the viral video as “AI-generated” and termed it completely fake. Kabir says that this has been prepared as part of a conspiracy against him, so that his image can be tarnished and political harm can be caused. Kabir challenged TMC and said that the party should prove at what time and place he had met someone. Terming the entire matter as a “bundle of lies”, he has also warned of filing a defamation case against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, and senior leaders Firhad Hakim and Arup Biswas. It is noteworthy that Humayun Kabir is counted among the famous Muslim leaders of West Bengal. After being suspended from TMC late last year, he had formed ‘Aam Janata Unnayan Party’ (AJUP) and later formed an electoral alliance with AIMIM.
