The actor said he had never been into drinking and was, in fact, a complete teetotaller before the divorce. He recalled that things changed dramatically on the day Reena left with their children. Left alone at home and struggling to deal with his emotions, he turned to alcohol for the first time in a serious way. What started as a moment of emotional vulnerability soon became a habit.
"That night, I had alcohol at home to serve guests and all that, so I started drinking. And for the next one and a half years, I drank almost a bottle a night. Now that’s really extreme, from a person who was a teetotaller to someone who consumes a bottle a night is very extreme."
Aamir further shared that the phase lasted much longer than he expected. For nearly one and a half years, he ended up drinking almost a bottle every night. Looking back at that time, he described the shift as extreme, especially for someone who had never been a regular drinker.
"I had drunk once or twice for a couple of scenes, but that was only because I had to drink for the scene. I mean, I was not into alcohol at all," he added.
According to Aamir, the sudden change from being a teetotaller to consuming alcohol daily was overwhelming.
