Samay Raina has broken the internet with his new stand-up video Still Alive. The video comes a year after he faced massive backlash for his show India’s Got Latentwhich stirred controversy and was eventually pulled down from his YouTube channel after Ranveer Allahbadia asked a derogatory question on the show.
Months of police scrutiny, media attention, and online trials, Samay dropped the video on Tuesday night, where he spoke about what he went through during the outrage.
He also talked about how many people cashed in on his fame and further fueled the controversy by speaking against him, adding to their own visibility. In the video, he mentioned how Mukesh Khanna, best known for playing Shaktimaan in the 90s, had criticised him for the language used in his content. Mukesh had earlier said that such explicit language was spoiling the youth.
Responding to this, the comedian questioned how Khanna could take the moral high ground, saying, “Tune bacche maare hain!”
Samay’s dig was brief, but he added that many kids who watched Shaktimaan had tried to imitate the character, with some reportedly jumping from terraces and losing their lives. He questioned why he alone was being held accountable for “spoiling the youth.”
The remark did not go down well with Mukesh Khanna, who took to Instagram to slam Samay. He shared a picture of himself as Shaktimaan, with Samay depicted sitting on a donkey with his face painted black, and wrote a strong response.
“A dog’s tail is always crooked. Keep it in a million bottles. Take it out. It’s still crooked again!! Samay Raina also has a tail. No matter how much you beat it or straighten it, it becomes crooked again. Because he’s not a simple creature. He’s a roasted creature. Burned in the fire of filth..”
He further wrote, “The entire country scolded him. He came back like a shameless person. And to be beaten. Now, only one thing is left. His face should be blackened, he should be made to sit on a donkey and parade through cities across the country, where children will throw eggs and tomatoes at him. Because he insulted their superhero, Shaktimaan!!!”
Well, Samay Raina fans showed up and how! They took to Mukesh Khanna’s Instagram and started roasting him. Many sided with Samay and recalled how they lost their friend who jumped from the building terrace to imitate Mukesh Khanna.
“Blackening the face is fine, but why would Samay sit on top of you?” quipped one fan.
“When are you coming out of Shaktimaan’s character?” asked another fan.
One fan posted, “Shaktiman ka ghee khatam hai (Shaktiman has run out of fuel).”
“Sir, you have also watched the show, swear on your mother and say it wasn’t fun!” came another reply.
“Sir, you need to grow up and understand the humour,” advised another fan.
“Grow up, uncle!” wrote another Samay Raina fan.
Samay Raina’s standup special has garnered 2.1 crore views. There have been nearly 1.4 lakh comments, mostly hailing the comedian.
