Sunil Narine creates record, becomes first overseas bowler with 200 T20 wickets in India

On April 9, in the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, the OG bowler from the home team, Sunil Narine, became the first overseas bowler to have 200 wickets in T20 cricket. He achieved the record by dismissing Mohammed Shami in the 16th over.

Sunil Narine kept the pressure firmly on throughout the 15th over, troubling Mukul Choudhary and Mohammed Shami with his sharp turn and clever variations. Shami, in particular, looked completely clueless, initially beaten by a delivery that held its line and zipped past the outside edge.

On the final ball of the over (14.6), Narine tossed one up full on middle stump, tempting the batter into going for the big shot. Shami tried an ambitious slog over the leg side, looking to hit with the spin, but failed to connect cleanly. The ball came off the inside half of the bat and ballooned high towards deep square leg, where Anukul Roy settled under it comfortably near the boundary ropes to complete an easy catch.

Mukul Choudhary then produced a sensational unbeaten 54 off just 27 balls, smashing seven sixes at a strike rate of 200.00. His late assault, supported by Avesh Khan’s calm presence, carried LSG to 182/7 in 20 overs.
