Yadgir: Kamala achieves PUC success despite father's opposition

Yadgir: While most parents dream of their children becoming educated and reaching great heights, Kamala, a student from Mudnal village in Yadgir district, has become a role model by scoring high marks despite being cast out of her home by her father for wanting to pursue PUC studies.

Kamala’s father, who had consented to her SSLC education, later opposed her PUC studies and fought with her. Accepting this as a challenge, Kamala moved to Yadgir city and, with the help of her maternal uncles, studied at the SJ Science PU College. Speaking to Udayavani, Kamala broke into tears as she shared how her uncles sold their cotton harvest to pay her college fees.

In the Second PUC results announced on Thursday, April 9, Kamala secured 94% in the Science stream, providing a fitting reward for the hard work of her mother and uncles. Kamala, who had previously brought laurels to the Mudnal Government School by scoring 91% in Class 10, became emotional while sharing her struggles, noting that she has been staying in a hostel and has not seen the faces of her father or fellow villagers for the last two year.

"It was terrifying when friction arose between my mother and father. After my SSLC, my father somehow opposed my education. It hurt deeply when he refused to accompany me for PUC admission. We were struggling with extreme poverty. My mother is illiterate; she brought us to Yadgir city and, with the help of maternal relatives, I pursued my PUC. Despite the financial crisis, I have passed Second PUC with 94 percent. With the help of my teacher, Suresh Bomman, I stayed in a hostel for two years and managed with two meals a day." - Kamala, Second PUC student (94%)

"My favorite student, Kamala, has been very interested in studies since high school. When she faced severe financial distress at the beginning of PUC, I provided whatever help I could and arranged for a hostel. It is a matter of great pride that Kamala has now scored 94 percent with the support of her maternal uncles. This girl is an inspiration to fathers who create such obstacles." - Suresh Bomman, Teacher

"It is a matter of pride that our college student Kamala has achieved this success despite her hardships. I wish her the best in choosing her future path and hope she leads a successful life." - Pavan Kumar, Principal, SJ PU College, Yadgir
