Karnataka got record budget allocation for railways, says MoS Jalshakti V Somanna

Bengaluru: MoS Railways & Jalshakti V Somanna on Thursday said the Union Government has sanctioned a record budgetary outlay this year to Karnataka.

The electrification of the most challenging Sakleshpur–Subrahmanya Ghat section (55 km) in Mysuru Division has been successfully completed. In addition, 31 new line projects are in progress, and 97% of the Route Kilometres (RKM) in Southwestern Railway have been electrified, Somanna added.


The MoS, who represents Tumakuru in the Lok Sabha, said the indigenous train collision avoidance system, Kavach, is being implemented in southwestern railway.

He also reviewed the progress of Road Over Bridges and Road Under Bridges, and stated that major stations including KSR Bengaluru, Yesvantpur, and Bengaluru Cantonment are being redeveloped with a focus on modern infrastructure, enhanced passenger amenities, and seamless multimodal integration.

The MoS also conducted, during the day, a window trailing inspection between Bengaluru and Mandya section. He reviewed several key operational and safety aspects.

Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy and Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar were also part of the inspection tour. Former ministers CS Puttaraju, SR Mahesh and DC Thammanna also accompanied the union ministers.

Divisional railway manager (DRM) Bengaluru Ashutosh Kumar Singh, DRM Mysuru Mudit Mittal and senior officers of the southwestern railway were present on the occasion.
