Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is once again in the midst of controversies. When the police raided Sir Ziauddin Hall (hostel) of the university, even the officials were stunned to see the scene there. A huge quantity of illegal weapons, fake notes and forged documents have been recovered from the room of a student. After this incident, there is panic in the entire campus.

Actually, this raid was not a sudden one. Two days ago, an incident of firing took place in the FM Tower area of the city. The police had reached the university hostel in search of clues about this case, but what they found there has raised big questions on the security arrangements.

‘A cache of weapons’ found in hostel room

At the center of the police investigation is a second year student, whose name is said to be Shahbaz alias Chhotu. When the police searched his room, two magazines of country-made pistol (32 bore), four cartridges of 315 bore, one cartridge of 9 mm and several live cartridges and cartridges of 12 bore were recovered from there. Not only weapons, the police also found six fake notes of Rs 100, eight mobile phones and a laptop from there.

big game of fake documents

What was even more shocking than the weapons was that two different high school marksheets in Shahbaz’s name were found in his room, in which his age was recorded differently. Apart from this, two different enrollment papers have also been recovered. Police suspect that Shahbaz had entered the university with the help of forged documents or was living there by registering fraudulently. This case points towards a big syndicate of forged documents.

The accused student fled from the spot

As soon as the police got wind of it, the accused student Shahbaz alias Chhotu managed to escape from the spot. The police took immediate action and registered an FIR against him in the Civil Lines police station. During the investigation, names of some of Shahbaz’s associates have also come to light, some of whom have already been arrested. This is not the first time that illegal activities have come to light in AMU hostels. Questions have often been raised about illegal occupation by outsiders and overcrowding of students, but the recovery of cartridges and fake notes has given the administration sleepless nights.

further police action

Aligarh Police says that this raid was conducted on the basis of concrete evidence found during the investigation of the firing case. Now teams have been deployed to arrest absconding Shahbaz. The recovered laptop and mobile phone are also being examined to trace his contacts. Police will also conduct forensic investigation of the recovered items. At present, there is tense peace on the campus and the police are thoroughly investigating every aspect.
