Britain is bracing for wintry conditions to return as snow could fall as far south as Cornwall this weekend - just days after the hottest day of the year. New maps from WXCHARTS, which uses MetDesk data, forecast snow in the South West in the early hours of Sunday morning.

According to the maps, snow is due to fall in South Wales, Somerset, Devon, and Cornwall by 3am on April 12. These areas could see between 0.1mm/hr and 1mm/hr, so levels will be relatively low. There are also expected to be some light dustings in the Scottish Highlands, though most of the UK will remain dry.

Elsewhere, rainfall is forecast for parts of Perth and Kinross, Cumbria, Lancashire, North Wales, and Cornwall. Between 0.1mm/hr and 3mm/hr is expected.

Separately, the Met Office outlook for Saturday to Monday warns of showers and possible thunder, though temperatures should be around average.

It reads: "Saturday sees rain clearing east, then heavy showers and windy conditions with coastal gales north. Sunday and Monday mostly showery with sunny spells, possible thunder and temperatures near normal."

This comes just days after the hottest day of 2026, Wednesday, which saw temperatures exceed 26C.

Kew Gardens in London recorded 26.6C in the afternoon, overtaking the previous record of the year - 24.8C on the Isle of Anglesey on Tuesday.

The Met Office said it's been the second warmest day on record during the first half of any April.

The last time 25C or more was recorded in the UK was in September last year, when temperatures hit 27.8C at St James's Park in London.

However, it's expected to cool off at the end of the week to around 12C to 15C in England and Wales, while Scotland and Northern Ireland see cloud, rain, and strong winds.
