Washington, April 8. A two-week ceasefire has been agreed between the US and Iran, which has also been supported by Israel. According to a White House official, US President Donald Trump played an important role in finalizing this agreement by talking to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump finalized the agreement after talking to Netanyahu, also discussed with Asim Munir

A senior Trump administration official said that President Trump spoke to Netanyahu to seal the deal. Apart from this, he also discussed the ceasefire with Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir.

Trump had set a deadline for the agreement with Iran

Interestingly, amid the ongoing war for the last 40 days (February 28), Donald Trump had given Iran time till 8 pm Washington time on Tuesday (5.30 am Indian time on Wednesday) to reach an agreement. Under this deadline, Iran had to agree to an agreement on Tuesday, which included reopening the Strait of Hormuz. If he does not do so, he will have to face tough attacks.

About 12 hours before the end of the said deadline, Trump gave another warning to Iran, saying that ‘an entire civilization will be destroyed’ on Tuesday night. At present, Trump announced this ceasefire even before the deadline was over.

Condition of opening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for stopping the attacks

The talks took place at a time when the US decided to give Iran two weeks to stop the proposed military attacks and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump said that America will stop attacks if Iran agrees to safely and immediately open this important sea route.

Iran gave approval with conditions

Iran has accepted this proposal with some conditions. It said that if the attacks stopped, it would also limit its activities and allow safe movement through the strait.

Israel also agreed

According to the White House, Israel has also supported this two-week ban. This step is considered important towards reducing tension and stabilizing the situation in the area.

White House said – this is America’s victory

The Trump administration has described this ceasefire as part of a larger strategy adopted after military operations. White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt said on social media platform X, ‘This is America’s victory, made possible by President Trump and our military.’

Got time for further discussion

For now, this two-week ceasefire has been decided to allow enough time to finalize a comprehensive agreement during the ongoing negotiations. The White House has indicated that detailed information to this campaign and talks will be shared soon.
