KKR vs LSG, IPL 2026: Kolkata Knight Riders Seek Revival Against In-Form Lucknow Super Giants at Eden Gardens

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), three-time IPL champions, are seeking a turnaround after a challenging start to the season as they face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Eden Gardens on Thursday. Home conditions could be crucial in helping KKR reset their campaign.
After three winless matches, KKR find themselves at an early-season crossroads. Their last outing against Punjab Kings highlighted their batting vulnerabilities, reduced to 16/2 in just two overs before rain awarded them a solitary point. While they escaped defeat, the game underlined the fragility creeping into their lineup.
KKR’s immediate task will be tackling a resurgent LSG bowling attack led by Mohammed Shami. Fresh off a brilliant spell against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he dismissed Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head in quick succession, Shami is poised to exploit the seam-friendly conditions at Eden Gardens. His disciplined lengths and ability to swing the ball could make the powerplay tricky for KKR.
KKR have already seen what to expect. Xavier Bartlett of Punjab Kings capitalized on similar conditions earlier this week, exposing KKR’s top order with sharp movement off a grassy surface. To avoid another early collapse, the KKR batsmen will need to quickly adjust to pace and bounce.
Opening partnerships remain a concern. Ajinkya Rahane and Finn Allen have shown glimpses but lacked consistency. KKR may consider pairing Tim Seifert with Allen again, while including Rachin Ravindra in the middle order could provide stability and an extra spin option.
Bowling has also been an area of struggle. Sunil Narine has taken just one wicket in two games, while Varun Chakravarthy has yet to strike this season. Both could return to the lineup, bolstering the attack, alongside emerging mystery spinner Daksh Kamra, who may be given more responsibility.
Cameron Green, KKR’s costliest signing, is still searching for rhythm after scores of 18, 2, and 4, with no overs bowled due to workload management. The team continues to back him, though Rovman Powell’s inclusion in the last game indicates alternatives are being explored.
Weather has been a concern with persistent rain in the region, but a late evening start is expected to allow for a full match.
LSG, meanwhile, enter the contest with confidence after a recent win, led by Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 68. With Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram anchoring the top order, KKR’s bowlers will need early breakthroughs to contain the visitors.
